Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a type of orthodontic procedure that uses clear aligner trays to straighten teeth. The aligners are similar to the trays used to whiten teeth, but they more acuratly fit each patient’s mouth, so they are more comfortable to wear. Many people prefer Invisalign® to traditional metal braces because they are made of clear plastic which makes them almost invisible when worn. There are also no sharp edges or wires to irritate the mouth. Each Invisalign® aligner is worn for one to two weeks before being exchanged for the next aligner in the series to keep teeth moving toward their proper alignment. Treatment usually takes 1-2 years, and most patients use around 18-30 aligners.

How long do I need to wear the aligners each day?

For best results you wear the aligners for 20-22 hours every day. During your time wearing the aligners your teeth gradually shift into alignment and every one to two weeks you will advance to a new set of aligners. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign® is convenient enough to remove for eating or brushing with no irritation to teeth or gums.

What are the benefits of Invisalign®?

Invisalign® is a comfortable and convenient option to effectively treat a wide variety of dental problems. Because they're clear, they're almost impossible to detect while worn in your mouth. This helps you to feel comfortable smiling, talking, and going about your normal day-to-day activities. Unlike other methods, Invisalign® has a smooth plastic design that doesn’t cause irritation to your mouth. The aligners are flexible enough to be removed for eating to let you live your life without disruption. Along with improving your smile, having properly aligned teeth improves dental health by reducing your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
While we love to treat our patient’s with Invisalign there are times where a patient’s condition is severe enough that we may refer the patient to another provider for treatment
